Sing to God a New Song

These days I've been thinking a lot about God and creativity. 

Above are some interesting interpretations of old hymns. This music is probably an acquired taste but it seems to be a taste I've acquired. When I see these new interpretations of old things I am always reminded we are to "sing to God a new song." These new songs can capture our imagination afresh with the depth and creativity God has given people to produce such a variety of things to bring Him glory. If you're a creative person, I hope you are encouraged and challenged by people around you to create a "new song". When the psalmist writes "Sing to the LORD a new song.

There will be a lot of people who say no. There will be a lot of people who don't get it. Search the scriptures and before God ask yourself what is right, and what honors God, what new thing can you create to capture our hearts, minds, emotions, desires and all our spiritual faculties? Every generation has new modes of access to their hearts, minds, emotions, and thinking, but at the same time has the same need for restoration with a relationship to the one true God. What they need is an authentic synthesis of who you are with the Gospel. You may not know who needs you. You may not even see them, but you have to be honest and committed before God as who you are. There are so many people in the Old Testament who were giving a message to people they would never meet until heaven. Elijah thought there was nobody that would get his message but God reminded him in the desert that there were other people who would understand him and be with him.

These days I'm spending a lot of time trying to figure out what I should do with my life. While I don't have a lot of defining moments in my life from mentor or authority figures as to what I should do, I distinctly remember two critical events that could have, did, or will perhaps change my life. The first event was when I wanted to join the military. My parents were pretty open minded when it came to choosing a path for my life. They said if it was something I really wanted to do I should do that. They had only one exception for that. It was when I wanted to join the military. They both strongly persuaded me not to do it. A Wednesday Off for Coronavirus

Today has been an interesting day so far. Despite being at home pretty much all day, except for a short venture out to get a mask gasket, I still had some rather interesting online interactions. While browsing Facebook I came across various articles and posts from friends about the current state of South Korea and the coronavirus. There were a few comment exchanges that helped to give perspective, and help me think about how to behave and what to do during a certain situation. One particular thing I am thinking about is what do we do with the 신천지 sect?  신천지 is a Korean religious group that believes their leader is essentially the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Their evangelism tactics have been questionable in terms of my encounters with them. They have in the past met with opposition from established churches, some going so far as to post signs forbidding proselytization at their campuses citing laws forbidding such practices as hurting business.   Their current connectio

Rice Cookers and Rice Basics

Recently I've been posting on a Facebook group to help foreigners get used to living in Korea. One or two nights ago I noticed that many foreigners are a bit baffled (including me) by the number of functions and range of prices that rice cookers in Korea have, so I spent some time investigating at the Homeplus rice cooker aisle reviewing some of the functions, and I also try to called to mind what I learned from my landlady, and from using my own rice cooker. Basic Functions This particular rice cooker has most of the modern conveniences of a basic pressure type rice cooker. Warming: You can see on the top left it has a warming function. This keeps the rice from going bad, and lets you have warm rice whenever it's meal time. I've kept rice in my cooker (which happens to be a non pressure one) for days on this setting although the manufacturers don't recommend this, and it tends to dry out, and turn yellow. One day is probably the safest for taste. Reheat
